Any news for certain ultrawide monitors?

BuzzingBee

I've been out of the loop with PC gaming and monitors for a while, and now I'm trying to regain my interest.  My current main displays are LG 34GN850 (3440x1440 165hz IPS) and LG C1 (3840x2160 120Hz OLED).

Revisiting with my current setup, I may consider upgrading my monitor (but can wait by end of the year) as I've enjoyed my TV too much over my monitor. I'm not necessarily asking for recommendations, instead wanting to know if any announcements were made for the following criterias below.

Resolution & size: I would like to continue using 34" 3440x1440 or upgrade to 38" 3840x1600 as my resolution (as long PPI remains the same). Before anyone suggesting alternative resolutions, I do not want 32-42 inch 4K, and I'm not ready for 2160p ultrawide.

HDR: One main reason I use my TV a lot is OLED's HDR, so this time I want my monitor to have "real" HDR, whether it's mini-led or OLED I don't mind.

Refresh rate: I want at minimum 240Hz. Right now I think most high end ultrawide monitors are up to 180Hz, maybe 200Hz.

Okay at this point is where it gets very picky. As I already have OLED TV at 120Hz which looks amazing already for casual gaming, I believe 144-180Hz range is not a huge improvement. For instance AOC AG344UXM is a close option, but it's at 170Hz and I would like to have more jump in upgrade by going up to 240Hz.

Panel type: My main preference is actually IPS followed by good VA (like Samsung Odyssey Neo G7), although i seen there is an upcoming QD-OLED monitor which I'm quite interested and ticks all the boxes: MSI MPG 341CQPX. I'm not worried about burn-in as I'm likely to game with approx 70%-80% usage and random junk for the rest (I only use my TV for watching). So if there is no option for IPS/good VA panel then this QD-OLED is my next preference.

Budget: Well, given above preferences I'm prepared to pay a lot of money if all the criterias are met. I also wanna point out for my country I can't simply return the monitor once I opened it and change my mind afterwards (unless it has true defects).

Thanks in advance.

So you're basically asking for a 34" 1440p 240Hz ultrawide monitor with good HDR. So OLED it is. Your usage sounds similar to mine and I haven't run into any burn-in issues with my OLED displays. I've been using the C2 as my main monitor for almost 2 years now.

New OLEDs in the 38" ultrawide format are still only 1440p, so you're sacrificing PPI compared to 34", so I'd advise against them.

Personally, I'd wait until there are more reviews for different models from different brands using these panels. The differences aren't that big most of the time though. At the very least, I'd wait until Monitors Unboxed get their hands on a 34" 240Hz QD OLED model.

Here is a review of the Asus model using the LG WOLED 34" 1440p 240Hz panel:

If someone did not use reason to reach their conclusion in the first place, you cannot use reason to convince them otherwise.

Yeah at this stage I'll likely to go OLED. My reason of prefering IPS is I still possibly use Eyefinity at times and in the past I swapped my side monitors from TN to IPS to match my main monitor. But knowing that I don't use Eyefinity too often, I'm okay with OLED on my main as long it has same PPI throughout my three monitors.

I'm gonna rule out that Asus monitor you linked due to aggressive 800R curve (but I guess I didn't mention that earlier). I already tried 1000R in store in the past and it was already too much.

I'll likely to wait until end of the year so I look forward to watch more reviews from different brands.
