Best deal hands down is the 7800x3d bundle from Microcenter, but you say it's not open yet?

AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D, Gigabyte B650 Gaming X AX, G.Skill Flare X5 Series 32GB DDR5-6000 Kit, Computer Build Bundle - Micro Center

image.thumb.png.001353a2b75c33626ab8b606038a3490.png

Country: US

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Gaming, something that can handle Cyberpunk on ultra 1440p and idk 75hz at least. 3d mechanical design (Solidworks) with projects up to 300 parts.

Other details

Current build I want to upgrade from.
Motherboard: Z370M Pro4 MATX
CPU: i5-8600k
RAM: G.Skill trident Z DDR4-3600 CL18 (4x8gb)
GPU: Gigabyte Gaming OC RTX 3070 8gb
PSU: EVGA 750 PQ
Case: Corsair Crystal 280X

So, I want to upgrade to an AM5 motherboard with the 7700x as my CPU. Im considering upgrading the RAM later down the line, but not right now.
I have a couple of questions:
Will my 750w PSU be able to handle those future generations? Even after a 40series upgrade?
What were the discounts on these parts on black friday or cyber monday?
And is it worth waiting for the release of the new generation CPU's and GPU's that are rumored to happen sometime later this year?

Any other suggestions like switching to Intel, considering a different AM5 cpu, or to think about AMD's GPUs are welcome!

Edit: The AMD 7800x3d combo deal from Microcenter seems like the best path, so any suggestions on a good ATX case anyone?

I use a 7700x and I love it.  You need to change your DDR4 RAM to DDR5 as AM5 only supports DDR5.

The MSI PRO B650M-A WIFI, ASRock B650M Pro RS WiFi and the ASUS TUF GAMING B650M-PLUS WIFI are all great mATX boards with great VRM cooling.

750w will be plenty, I use a RM750i with my 7700x and overclocked RTX 4080 without issues, I see around 400-450w total system power draw during heavy gaming.

Discounts vary from shop to shop 🙂

The new CPU's are quite close to release as we have started to see BIOS updates for the Ryzen 9000 series on almost all AM5 motherboards.

But you can always wait for something better right?

b650m hdv is the best value am5 board and it definitely should hold up for future cpus when the vrms will handle a 7950x with ease, pro rs is basically the same thing but extra dimm slots which are useless anyways and make ram oc  or even rgb rams (look) worse

MSI PRO B650M-A WIFI

this is also a very good option at 145$ if you need wifi and want some faster usbs on the rear i/o

just keep using it till you actually need to upgrade, should do just fine with 80 class cards but 90 class cards may need abit of undervolting or maybe not considering how efficient the 7800x3d is (the cpu youd wanna buy for gaming)

i mean if you dont mind waiting you might aswell especially if you dont have the money for the upgrades yet

you could also just buy a used 6800xt/3080 for ~350$ and you can choose to resell for a slight loss or not resell depending on how next gen performs since these are used gpus and a decent chunk of their value is already gone, heck you might even get lucky and make a profit depending on what shenanigans goes on in the next few months if all of a sudden gpu supply dissapears or something like that

Didnt know I needed to change to DDR5, thanks for the heads up!  Hearing you also have a 750w PSU that can handle your build brings me a lot of relief. And yeah you can always wait for something better, but if its that close then I might as well wait for it so I can get some good deals on the 7000 series.

I chose the 7700x since it seemed the best bang for my buck for the use case I wanted it for, mostly it was for gaming as I am just a student and not a professional so Im not too concerned about stability. And there is a MicroCenter opening in Charlotte which isnt that far away from me.

Are you implying the 7700X isn't all that stable?  It's a rock solid CPU,  as are they all.

Good to know, I'm just clarifying that stability is not something I'm considering. As for budget I think 600 dollars will be enough, especially if I take a look into the used market. Unless you have a suggestion, I'm not experienced on what is and what isn't a good budget for this kinda stuff.

Yeah it opens May 10th, that is a very attractive offer so I hope they'll have it until then. Oh, but its ATX and not MATX. Can they do something about that or is the bundle set in stone?

Dozens.  Most made by Fractal.  Namely the North, fantastic case to build in.  Or any of the Meshify line, or Define line.  R6 was a joy.
