If you can stretch down the wireless, there are plenty of very good headphones in that price range.

 

I always recommend a HE400, best $300 headphone I've ever heard. You can get an O2+ODAC if you want (not mandatory), or Fiio E10 and/or E7k could drive it just fine.

 

Edit: just read your edit, either HE400 or push it a little more, get HE500 ($600)

 

Other good headphones I've heard:

 

- Sony MDR-1R

- V-moda M100, like stated above, but be sure to find the best price around. It's a bit of a fashionable headphone, so some store crank the price up a bit

- If you love bass, the Sony XB series are surprisingly good. Tried the XB500, nice soundstage for a closed back, with good (not cheap) bass. XB700 should be better.

- DT-990 got good reviews, but I haven't tested it personally, so still indifferent about it
