ok so my pc has a 250gb ssd and a 4th hdd, when my new pc arrives (250gb m.2 and 4Tb of hdd) how can I transfer my pc over to the new one? I can’t get a 4tb external hard drive or anything, but I do have an external hard drive, so would I just have to move everything over in chunks? But I don’t know how to get my ssd over first to do all that so I have windows and all

There are a few options:

  • Physically move the old HDD to the new computer, if possible
  • Buy an external USB enclosure and slap it inside - gives you a budget 4TB external HDD afterwards
    • Might not be very handy if it's a 3.5" drive though.
  • Define your old HDD as shared, define it as a network drive on the new PC, copy via the network

No idea for the SSD and I'd be doing a clean install if I were in your shoes.

I've gotten to know some stuff, but am far from omniscient, so don't take my advice as gospel and wait for other opinions - I just like throwing in my two cents when I can.

I can’t physically move it since I’m wiping it after and giving my old pc to my brother so have to figure out how to transfer an ssd and hdd over

If the NVMe drive manufacturer has a drive cloning / migration utility use it to clone the SSD. Once the drive is cloned and the new system booted, shut down and install the old HDD. Install the new HDD in the old system.

80+ ratings certify electrical efficiency. Not quality.

Macrium has free drive cloning software. It is pretty simple and quick.
