Are my componants good enough for 1440p 120hz high settings..?

Neko Yumi

I recently upgraded my rig from a rtx2080 xc EVGA to a  RX7800xt nitro + from Sapphire with 24.3.1 drivers, made sure to use DDU in safe mode prior to installation.

Made sure to also enable smart access memory / resizable bar.

The GPU and CPU were automatically overclocked using AMD adrenalin.

I haven't reinstalled my windows 10.

Here's my current setup

PSU : flowerpower leadex III 850W gold

Mobo : ASUS ROG STRIX B550-F GAMING (WI-FI) AM4 platform

CPU : Ryzen 7 5800x ( non 3D )

RAM : 32gigs of corsair vengeance RGB Pro C16 @3200MHZ

970 EVO + boot drive

samsung 860 evo 1TB

2TB HDD's

After multiple tests in hell divers and darktide but also phantasy star online NGS; multiple crashes and even driver time outs happened by simply launching a match in the case of darktide.

after some research, the crashes does seem to be helldivers related. I couldn't fix the issue even after checking this post

the frame times and 99pourcentiles are incredibly inconsistent sometimes fixing themselves to being butter smooth after pressing alt enter to shift between fullscreen and borderless windowed.

With high settings, the framerates fluctuate easily between 100 to 30 FPS. They are all over the place.

When i tune the settings to the lowest, they do stabilize, but with micro stutters definitely present.

Can someone please help me stabilize my PC?

I have included darktide crash dumps and console logs to see if it would help you guys.

Will make sure to test out more games as the post goes through troubleshooting.

Looks like driver related issues, not much you can do unless you can change renderer (possible in some games like BG3)

Another thing I'd do would be to remove any OC and set higher main and lower max clocks in Adrenalin (like 1000/2000 instead of 500/2500), it can help not crashing (again that worked for me in early BG3 versions)

System : AMD R9 5900X / Gigabyte X570 AORUS PRO/ 2x16GB Corsair Vengeance 3600CL18 ASUS TUF Gaming AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX OC Edition GPU/ Phanteks P600S case /  Eisbaer 280mm AIO (with 2xArctic P14 fans) / 2TB Crucial T500  NVme + 2TB WD SN850 NVme + 4TB Toshiba X300 HDD drives/ Corsair RM850x PSU/  Alienware AW3420DW 34" 120Hz 3440x1440p monitor / Logitech G915TKL keyboard (wireless) / Logitech G PRO X Superlight mouse / Audeze Maxwell headphones

Would you be able to show me what you mean by setting higher/ lower max clocks?

Where exactly?

Thank you very much

I have figured out something a little stupid however; are you running all your games on fullscreen?

I have a dual monitor setup my main 1440P LG 165hz and a 1080P 60hz samsung secondary

Previously was always using borderless window in my games, but it gave terrible performance with this new card

Turning on fullscreen fixes many of the performance issues in the 1% and 99th percentiles... testing in progress..

Yeah I only got one monitor

There were several issues on 7000 series with multiple monitors indeed, try disconnecting the secondary to test if it's better

That's a real bummer, i wouldn't mind trying it though...

1. use ddu uninstall gpu drivers and chipset.

2. download latest chipset driver for your motherboard and install that first

3. restart and then install gpu drivers and restart again

don't use auto overclock, see if it's stable.

if with default it's still crashing then could be driver issue.

could also be windows issue, years ago i switched from nvidia to amd gpu and i had issues while others didn't.

After windows reinstall the issues gone

but don't go for that yet, maybe it's driver issue. no idea

________________________________________

as for auto overclock, increases core frequency usually without lowering the voltage.

the old gpu i have works like this

when the the game uses all gpu cores 100%, the core frequency drops.

usually happens on higher resolution

that happens because you hit the power limit

to fix that if you want your gpu to stay higher frequency

first you need to see if you have the temp headroom on hotspot.

And then you can increase the power limit to max

and check your hotspot temps again if they are in spec.

the power limit could be used for safety aswell, for example if the manufacturer knows that the gpu cooler can't handle max frequency on all cores they will give you lower % increase.

Usually you see high temp on lower end gpu coolers, when you increase on those the power limit and the gpu increase frequency the cooler can't handle the heat and you have to increase fan speed as well = noise increase

if the hotspot is to hot then you shouldn't increase the power limit

just increasing the max frequency won't help i think.

The gpu will be faster until it hits power limit, then it will drop the frequency and i guess will be the same again on heavy games.

with higher power limit the gpu will be able to boost more.

usually it's better to increase the power limit vs just frequency increase.

Let's say my gpu runs at 1400mhz max, with heavy game drops to 1200mhz.

Even if i increase max frequency to 1500mhz if the gpu still drops to 1200mhz on that game the performance will be the same.

so without overclocking if i just increase power limit to max the gpu will run 1400 instead of 1200.

but the temps will be much higher, since it boosts 1400mhz on all cores = draws more power

download latest stable(non beta) bios for your motherboard if you want, since new gpus use sam the newest could be better? no idea D
