Hey I have the gigabyte ga-970a-ds3p motherboard and the r9 290x(triple fans) and I was wondering if they were compatible because I just finished my build and nothing is showing from the display when I plug in the gpu( I used all ports)

You might need a BIOS flash to get the card running on that board. Install all the latest drivers and flash your BIOS to the latest version and if that doesn't work, it may be a dead PCI E lane. Try some other PCI E hardware in it to see if it works.

No there shouldn't be. The first 16X PCIE slot is far away from the 6 sata connectors on the bottom right of the motherboard.

i once plugged my gpu into a 775 mobo so yes i think it is compatible
