Hi,

Recently bought a sapphire pulse 7900xtx.

It's a great performer, but it tends to get a bit loud. Even on less RPM i can hear it through my headphones a little. Do you think i should swap it for a Nitro+ ??

Would leave me without a gaming system for 2 weeks, which would suck. So overall is it really bad enough compared to the Nitro+ or should i be happy with what i have? I would have gotten it but i didn't expect to have bigger paycheck. Thoughts?

If its really bothering you and you plan on having the 7900XTX for a long time then I would be without a computer for 2 weeks while swapping them out.

I had to do this with my 2080 Super due to crazy Coilwhine.. It sucked but was worth it in the end.

I timed this video where he goes over the sound of each card.

The Nitro has a lower sound and way less annoying sound than the Pulse.

I think the high pitched noise from the Pulse is very noticeable even with headphones on as you describe.

Good case airflow will also help keep the GPU cool and have the fans run at a lower speed.

Thanks for the advice! Yes, i do plan on keeping my 7900xtx for a long time. For example, before this card i was still running a 1080ti!

You make sense, this is the first card i have ever owned where the fan manages to be audible even at high volume headset. I can just throw my 1080ti back into it and just use it for 2 weeks.

Thank you for the advice 🙂

I might have Edited the post above while you wrote so have another read for possible more information ( refresh website)

Ah! So you won't be completely without a computer then, I would absolutely get the Nitro+ if you can easily send the Pulse back.

Good luck!

It's a great performer, but it tends to get a bit loud.

I had one of the more expensive 7900XTX in my personal rig after release for a couple of month, and that one was also the loudest thing I have had in my PC. both fan noise and coil whine. My PC is almost fully silent specially on idle so it was really bothering me as well. But I ended up switching from it for several reasons ( mainly FSR sucking and high power draw on idle and other shortcomings). Today I have a Zotach 4080, no coilwhine but I was still uncomfortable with the Zotach fans because they rattled ( Zotach is cheap garbage it seems) and I didn't want to send it for warranty and wait like you. Because it could take well over 2 weeks and up to 2 months.

So what I did was, I removed the shroud and the fans, and ziptied 2 Arctic p14 fans that I had around here to the heatsink. Problem all solved, and since the card has no audible coilwine either, I'm very happy.

Yeah, i have had a lot of video cards over the years. But this is the first to ever be noticeable with headphones and streaming video going. Seeing as 50% is that bad i can't imagine fans over 50% long term.

Well you could try what I did if the problem is solely caused by the fans and not the coilwine. If your problem is also with coilwhine then zipting fans to it wont solve the issue. GPU Fans also going over 50% is not practical at all because anything spinning at 3000RPM is going to be heard loudly. Ideally you'd want your fan curves be set in a way to avoid the fans going high while gaming.

With the Zotach, eventho the original fans had a rattling noise, it would still cool the card by 50% fan speed under any gaming scenario. The 7900XTX was almost twice as audible even without rattle at 50%.

Sticking 12cm or 14cm fans to your GPU is not that hard as long as you're used to opening and closing hardware, and you would need a GPU fan adapter. But you have to have some basic experience opening and fiddling with hardware in general. The hard part would be sticking the fans on it. I used zipties because it's cheap. Some people would 3Dprint fancy brackets, some would buy something online. I'm not worried about the warranty since if anything happens I'll put the shroud and the original fans back on  it and I really don't think they would reject me since the heatsink was never removed.( although the possibility is always there)

If it don't cost too much more and you can afford, consider a 4080? Fans won't spin up as much because its easier to cool.

Either way, look into undervolting to have GPU run much cooler without significant impact on performance.

Sorry late reply, IRL was busy.

From what i read the 4080 super and 7900xtx trade blows back and forth on games. I like the more VRAM on the AMD side. FSR is pretty cool. 4080 super side is definetly DLSS and frame gen. No interest in Ray tracing as i would rather have the FPS it loses.

I have until the end of the day to make up my mind as the return window is tuesday.

Will have to research more! I hold no loyalty to any GPU manufacturer AMD or Nvidia. With the 7900xtx i like what sapphire makes and all the popular reviews. I miss the day of EVGA, top notch company. Give a $100 or more and get the warranty bumped to 5 years with them.

Anyways, i'll do my reading and see what i come up with. I have the money for either one. Just wanted to give AMD a decent shot. Besides the fans being loud it has been a breeze!

Any unmentioned benefits to either one?

Thanks for all the continued feedback!

Some productivity software favor Nvidia over AMD. DLSS has been consistently better than FSR. Lower power bill is always good and less heat usually means better longevity.

If you are doing something that could use faster or more than 16GB of VRAM, then its obvious which is the better choice.

Most games these days are optimised to console specs, and the PS5 already has 16GB of unified RAM. PC players can crank up the LOD and run true 4k unlike consoles. This means more VRAM usage than consoles. If you think PS6 will have more RAM, then the 7900XTX will be the safe bet for the next generation of games.
