The difficulty with a phone will be 1) to trigger it, 2) that its battery will probably be dead in a day unlike these things that can stay a reasonable amount of time in standby before they're opened.

  • 1 month later...

Sorry for raising the topic again

I changed the plan my Plan B is Using a Raspberry Pi with a screen

the question is What is the best package for Raspberry Pi that displays endless video at the lowest price?

A pi isn't great for that, it'll take 30 seconds to boot, will show a boot screen, etc... and along with a display, card, power supply... is going to be way more expensive than one of those purpose-made gift box video players.

Let's see...

A raspberry pi

Power supply

LCD Screen

Storage

Some type of sensor if wanting the raspberry to start right as the box being opened, or atleast a microswitch

A way to hide all of those so it doesn't ruin aesthetic

Sounds around $120 atleast to me

Those china video gift boxes is most likely made using custom made board system, hence why they can make it really slim to be hidden behind the box lid.

And if let's say they took the base of the board from Pi / Arduino, they remove everything that they don't need to play video so they can keep the manufacturing cost low.

Probably using flex cable too so they can remove the HDMI port, and by that cutting down cost and height.

I wouldn't be surprised if they direct solder everything to cut down cost further.

They probably custom programmed in a sleep mode too, which IIRC raspberry pi can't.

There is approximately 99% chance I edited my post
