I wasn't thinking the other day and pulled out my CPU and then put a different one in all without unplugging it from the wall it was off obviously but it had power.

When I stick the CPU back in one of the pins had a small arc and now on 2 separate MB and 3 separate CPU it won't boot it haults on VGA light or if it does boot it doesn't have any video output but it still gets into Windows.

ROG 5700XT so I'd really hate for such an awesome card to be dead

What you did was SUPER dumb but you might want to try:

Swapping the mobo and the cpu to see if it works, if it does, test to see which of the 2 was dead

If it dosen t work it s something else like the gpu

Might also want to try to look for de LEDs on the mobo do see the problem

you said if it does boot, does it depend on the mobo and,or cpu or does it just randomly work ?

It boots on both MB and all 3 CPU, it just pauses or hangs on the VGA light when booting but I never get anything on the screen no matter what

First of all, you broke one major rule! (Always unplug any system before doing work on it )!!! second its probably dead after taking it out when the system is plugged in.

and have you tried any other Gpu ?

Yeah sometimes I do things and it's like oh shit woops too late.

I have a 1060 coming from eBay that I was gonna put in my Plex server so I can toss it in there when it arrives.

But I don't get how a arc from the CPU socket would cause the GPU to fail not the MB or CPU 🤷‍♂️

And that's strike 2... Never buy parts off of ebay

The fuck‽ I buy all the best stuff off eBay. Yeah when I was in So-Cal I'd go to microcenter for everything but sometimes a cheap eBay part will get the job done just fine

I don't know either, are you saying the CPU and motherboard you did an oopsie on can boot with a different GPU?

what do you mean you don't know, where does the GPU being dead come from?

I would personally(if possible of course) leave it plugged in, but turn off the power supply, so the whole system stays grounded. Then I would also discharge it.

I find it easier to antistatic it
