Wow, vintage.

I'd get a better PSU if it's going to be on all the time. SSD price seems high for what it is. You can find better deals on eBay.

if i were to get a better psu, what would you recommend, and ssd wise, i have a m.2 slot and 6 sata, which is better. And yes very vintage but it is what i have been given through various people and my first build. Since it is just a server essentially and i don't game above Minecraft i thought it would be okay. I am also modding a case to make this work as it is a budget build.

Wow, vintage.

i wouldn't be calling a 4770k vintage.  it still runs a plenty of games fine at 60fps.  It's even a little faster than zen 1 in some tasks.

What about this system isn't serving you well?  It seems fine for your stated use case.

That PSU is fine for a system with no GPU.  It's not great, but it'll be fine.  It'd be a waste of money to replace it if it works.

The case is a old dell OptiPlex 780, as it has a dvd read write module, i already have the motherboard CPU, RAM. I was asking advice surrounding the power supply  and cooler and SSD as i havent bought them yet

Does the system have a power supply?  Other than making sure it has an ssd, a server with a use case as you’ve descrived it shouldn’t need anything more than what that system would already have.

Any SSD.  However much space you need, just go with whatever has the lowest prove per GB.

any benefit for this purpose m.2 vs sata

Well, that motherboard probably doesn’t have an m.2 port.  NVMe (m.2) drives are faster, but sata are still way more than fast enough for your use case, to the point that it won’t matter.

For your use-case.... almost none.

M.2 is runaway winner for boot speeds, large file transfers and synthetic benchmarks.... once you have a MC server running you won't notice any difference at all.

If I wanted to try to justify it to myself (ignoring the boot speed / MC upgrade speed): it could help keep the build more compact and declutter for better airflow, but I'm reaching here.

Main rig: Ryzen 7 7800X3D, RTX3080Ti FE, 32Gb Teamgroup Create-T DDR5-6000C30, AC Freezer3 280mm AIO, Asrock Steel Legend X670E, M.2 2Tb Samsung 990 Pro, M.2 1Tb WDSN550, SATA 8Tb WD80EFAX, Corsair HX850, LianLi O11 Air Mini + 3x NF-A14's, MSI MPG 271QRX (27"/1440P/360Hz), Gigabyte M27Q (27"/1440P/170Hz), Asus PA248 (24"/1200P/60Hz), G815 kbd, G Pro X Superlight 2, Audezee Maxwell.

Games room "TV rig": 5800X3D, AC Freezer2 280mm AIO, ASUS Prime B450M, RTX4080S w/iChill AIO, 32Gb TridentZ DDR4-3600C14, M.2 500Gb & 1Tb WDSN550, 8Tb WD80EFAX, BeQuiet Straight 1000W,  LianLi O11 Air Mini, LG G4 (55"/4K/120Hz), G815 kbd, G502 mouse, LG G1 Soundbar / Audezee Maxwell.

Lounge HTPC: Minisforum UM760 Slim, Ryzen 5 7640HS, 16Gb DDR5, 1Tb M.2, LG C2 (42"/4K/120Hz), Logitech Touch K400.
Laptop: LOQ16, RTX4060, 16Gb DDR5, 2x 2Tb SN990 M.2.

NAS: Synology 1812+, 3Gb RAM, 3x16Tb Seagate EXOS RAID5, 1Tb MX500 cache, 3x3Tb WDRED RAID6, 120Gb SSD cache.

definitely going with m.2 as it will also have a linux vm with a couple of small low power servers on it

the clutter is defiantly going to be a problem, based on that fact that this whole build has to be under 100 dollars, so i am modding a case to make it work
