M4 Deco auto change causes speed problems

qboIodp

I recently bought the Deco M4 (V2) 2-Pack, I'm using them as a router and I set it up using custom cat5e cables and backhaul. I am paying for 100/10 internet and I am reaching the advertised speeds over both ethernet and wifi. But. When I move close to the second deco and the change occurs, I do a speedtest and it is only 30/10. If I turn on and off the wifi on my phone it goes to normal (100/10). If I go close to the other one and it automatically connects again, it goes 30/10. What is happening. I have also tested it with ethernet and it is always 100/10 even when on the phone it is 30. I use multiple speedtests, including the tp link app "Wifi Toolkit".What is happening? Is it the phone?

Could be. Did you test roaming with another wireless device?

The ability to switch from one AP to another is up to the client device. Mesh and some other systems can "nudge" the devices to roam between APs. However, some clients are just too "sticky" and will hold on to the furthest AP until the very last second.

How far apart are the M4 units?

Yes, a couple of days ago it did it on all 3 of the devices I tested on. I'll test them again today and I'll post again

Around 10m or 26ft (through walls), but I use the app to confirm when the device I'm testing gets switched from one to another ap.
