Programs, Apps and Websites whole subforum is for that. What I think you are after is something curated, like what MajorGeeks or CNET had. We don't have resources to do it.

Hello, everyone.

It would be awesome and helpful for everyone to create page of helpful programs for tech on this forum.

I've seen forum thread it has most programs but missing some like cloning disk or freefilesync and it's not in great formatting.

I think it's useful for everyone because if you forgot the name you could go to linustechtips and find the program you're looking for.

And give acces to all moderstors if they find new useful program and used them themselves they can add to programs list.

And remove old programs or became malicious.

Cheers.

I'm jank tinkerer if it works then it works.

Regardless of compatibility 🐧🖖

That's the very purpose of that thread. Its few and far between there is a universal program/app that is considered by many to be useful for the masses. Most just have a niche void they fill in specific use cases.

Yeah it is however to me on mobile

Everything is white and grey and text is little bit bigger and I'm missing categories like "information tools programs"

And would be great to have spoilers for tldr. Because right now its long scrolling to find one ill need.

Its bit harder to scan to what i need and I'm missing some programs that's useful like diskmanagent or cloning disk or wipe disk programs useful tools or alternative like GOG or opensource programs.

And I see lots of Linus tech tips videos with useful operation systems like unraid or proxmox.

Would be great to be included to all programs

If everyone combines programs into one page then everyone can find it if they need specific program.

Not that i mind, i could just make my own programs list although it would help for lots peeps who's looking programs for their needs.

I'm jank tinkerer if it works then it works.

Ah no matter I'll make my own offline documentation in obsidian and insert all programs once I've encountered or used by myself and know of.

Actually any index style thing would require paid staff to vet, test and keep updated. So essentially what LMG is going to do with hardware and Labs. With software, one would need to recheck all regularly to make sure they are updated, secure, with payment model originally said etc. And for that we only have volunteers. So you get what we have now with any buyers guide or tier list.

Yeah I've realised that, quite lot of work.

It's just harder to google lots of things if you can't remember program name and unsure if you have correct website for it or GitHub.

I either already have it installed or I have the installer in my drive / thumbdrive.

For things I rarely use and might forgot the name and/or purpose, I simply write a note in notepad.

I don't even have to be online to read it.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Now im really curious how you'd categorise the use of Notepad++ then. 😛
