First time posting on a forum looking for advice. Hope to get some help.

1. Budget & Location

$2000 Canadian, I live in Canada.

2. Aim

Planning on trying out Risk of Rain 2 and Baldur's Gate 3, maybe others I see that seem interesting, Web Browsing.

3. Monitors

One monitor, if I need a second monitor, I feel that I could probably just use my laptop for it.

4. Peripherals

I have a G305 mouse. I will need a keyboard and monitor, I was planning on getting the AW2725DF separate from the budget, but I would be open to a different one under $600.

5. Why are you upgrading?

My current setup is a 12th gen intel framework 13 right now, so I can't really play more modern games, I got it right before the framework 16 was announced so rip me I guess.

6. OS

Using Windows.

7. Extra Info

Going to want 2x16 GB of Ram. Planning on trying to build it myself. Preferred air cooling, as I don't feel super confident in setting up water-cooling.

Sorry if i haven't been too helpful, as I said it's my first time asking for advice on a forum like this, I will try to answer questions in I can.

You did great by describing your use case, you can definitely get a decent PC for $2000 Canadian.

There are plenty of people here that are good at making great PC lists

  • powerful build featuring one of the slowest early release AM5 CPUs, despite being the slowest AM5 prior to 8000 series, that CPU is crazy fast enough for gaming, with it's 5Ghz+ boost clocks
  • overspecced Motherboard which will most likely support stronger CPUs on AM5 that don't even exist yet
  • 6000-30 RAM is the ultimate sweetspot where price is fair and anything faster could be potentially unstable
  • Teamgroup MP is 150$ SSD, and for it's price it does give the speed you'd expect
  • 7800 XT offers 16GB of plentiful VRAM and is faster in raster performance than 4070 RTX
  • Case is 100$ so my wild guess without looking at it is that it has some clean looks, a side window, and most likely great color pallete with 2 or several pre-installed fans
  • Corsair RM750e ATX 3.0 compatible PSU which requires being able to handle transient spikes beyond the PSU's Wattage
  • Win11 is buyable for 30$ or less as a simple activation code you activate from the PC by installing the free Win11 install tool on an USB stick, keys mentioned lay in the grey-area of legal, basically safe for regular people
