Budget (including currency): 1,500 usd

Country: USA

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Games I play are largely r6 and other esports titles, but I want to play more singleplayer games like jedi survivor, spiderman, the last of us, starfield, etc.

Other details:

My current system is this: ryzen 5 2600x rx 6600 16gb of 3200 cl16 DDR 4. 450w psu Asus b450 m-a pro with a thermaltake core v21 for the case (it's mATX)

I live near a microcenter so I am planning on eventually doing either their 7700x or the 7800x3d cpu, mobo, ram combo that they have, however I need to upgrade my GPU as well. The GPU I'm thinking of is either the 7800XT or the 4070 super. I'm wanting to either get the cpu combo or the gpu first, but I cannot figure out which would be the better option to buy first, the gpu or the cpu combo. Additionally, I also don't know which cpu would be better for the budget. I might be willing to spend the extra on the 7900 XT, if that is better, but again, I cannot decide which cpu would be better for the gpu.

Any help would be appreciated.

My monitor is a 1080p 60hz monitor that I plan to upgrade to a 144hz 1440p monitor after the pc is built.

Best value upgrade would be a 5700X3D drop-in, and the badassiest GPU you can pay for (4080S or 7900XTX)

That's even under your budget, $250+$1000 to $1100

Double check the bundles, not seeing them currently.  They're pushing their Insider Cardholder specials right now.

The 6950XT is still a very stout and for $549 is a viable buy as well.

5600X3D is $199 at MC, 5700X3D is $249, and 5800X3D is $289.  I'd lean to the 5600X3D or 5800X3D, 57 is in an odd place with an MC around.

I've thought about going to one of the am4 x3d CPUs, but I old platform is kind of holding me back from just pulling the trigger.

Ok, in EU we have no 5600X3D I didn't think about it ! 😮

Even then the 5700X3D is only around 5% slower in games than a 5800X3D, for 15% less cost it still has good value

I've thought about going to one of the am4 x3d CPUs, but I old platform is kind of holding me back from just pulling the trigger.

I will say that my 5600X3D runs pretty near the stock 7700X in gaming.  Obviously the 7800X3D is another notch up, but since you've already got an AM4 setup... if it were my money I would drop in the 5600X3D for $199, buy a nice fat GPU and wait for the 8xxx series that is coming later this year for consideration.

Then put your 5600X3D/mobo/RAM for sale (or use as a secondary system).  I can almost guarantee you'll get your money back on that 5600X3D, cuz it's rare and people without MC are crying.

One big thing... splurge on the monitor.  Trust me, it's worth putting some money into.  Get as big and as nice as you can, it'll last years and the enjoyment isn't quantifiable always.  When i went to UW I never thought I'd love it this much (was worth every penny of the $850 I spent).

You bring up a good point if the 5600X3D is the same as 7700x. One thing I just remembered though is that my mobo only supports pci gen 3, so getting a new card is going to require a new mobo anyway to get the full use out of a higher end gpu.

Isnt it mostly the new low tier cards that get limited by that?

mITX is awesome! I regret nothing (apart from when picking parts or have to do maintainance *cough*cough*)
