Surface go touch screen issues

I have an old surface go that was given to me because the lower inch or so of the screen doesn't register touch input. The device is perfectly functional and I can use it as a basic laptop with the detachable keyboard but it would be nice to be able to use it as a touch screen tablet as I already have a really nice laptop.

I have tried updating drivers, resetting, full shutdown, everything from official support forums on the topic. I'm afraid it might be a hardware issue and if it is I am more than willing to try to repair it if there is anything I can do.

 

Any help would be much appreciated.

 

p.s. I am also content with leaving it the way it is and just using it as a really expensive mousepad if there is nothing that can be done.
