No you dont. Your friend has no clue what they are talking about. You install the SSD, install your operating system like you usually would.

You will need to install drivers for things like wireless network card, graphics card etc but not storage device. For that you need to have operating system installed though. Just to there is no confusion.

OS means operation system

Windows is a operation system and its already included in OS most of drivers anyway and the rest of drivers will be installed automatically by windows the operation system.

Exception gpu drives and some drivers that are left over.

If you have nvidia you would go NVIDIA drivers website by googling NVIDIA drivers and you will find website and enter correct info in order to get gpu drivers

For Intel you go to their website

Are you sure you're up to the task?

I would suggest to follow guide on youtube. That's you best bet.

I'm jank tinkerer if it works then it works.

Regardless of compatibility 🐧🖖

If you use Windows (which I guess you do?), it will take care of most drivers on its own through windows update.

Also, in my experience, Windows installs most drivers automatically on first startup, or at least promps you to do it yourself.

And if you end up confused about something, you can always ask here.

English is not my first language, so please excuse any confusion or misunderstandings on my end.

I like to edit my posts a lot.

Alright my friend here we go again.

(Bear in mind I'm writing from memory)

You need usb device in order to boot and install to ssd

So you need a temporary computer.

Download windows 11 iso from microsoft website. Google "windows 11 download microsoft"

Then you'll need rufus its a program to "brand a disc but to usb.

You will find Rufus program by googling rufus and you will find website and you will need uefi one not boot. (You will recognise penguin as linux 🐧 on background on the website from rufus.)

Once you have both.

Plug usb into computer, make backup first because it will wipe usb. Use the program and select the iso and correct usb by checking letter once you're done.

Tadah you made bootable usb windows installer.

You need plug in to new computer and unplug old disk out and plug ssd in and start it, I'm sure it will start automatically to usb because theres no os on it.

Good luck
