you should get an igpu so a 12100

How much storage would you like?

Budget (including currency): £1000 GBP (Ideally)

Country: United Kingdom

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: NAS server for Family Pictures/Videos and Media Server

Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc):

I am currently referencing Linus's video on building an affordable NAS server, I like the idea of availability for upgrade later on.

I want to create an Intel version if possible, only reason is that I currently have an Intel Core i3 12100F just laying around and would like to use that.

However, if upgradability is less likely on an Intel based system then I guess I will go AMD base.

Any ideas are greatly appreciated.

I know I said £1,000. That is my max as Linus managed to get an AMD system setup for under $700 🙂

Thanks all!

Josh

FYI: you don't need 16gb of ram but they're so cheap you might as well, and a modular psu for the last one to help with cables

and you could get a 512gb or 1tb ssd on top if you want

Great suggestions, thank you. If I was to take a 128GB harddrive and wack an os on it, then remote desktop to the system, would I not just use the CPU I have got?

And 20TB is probably enough for now but I would probably want 100TB later on down the line

You'll need a GPU of some sort I believe - mostly for installing an OS. Do you have a random one laying around - GTX 650 or something old like that? You could throw that in for a display out.

PLEASE STOP [Killing] ME I WILL GIVE Y OU ANOTHER DEAL.

Yeah I have got an XFX RX 480 I can chuck in there for install, will I need to keep it in there? Or can I remove it after install?

if you still want display you'll need to keep it there, so yes

then chuck that into the build above (which has 40tb and 5 sata ports for future upgrades as well as bigger case to 100tb)

You can remove it after install if you don't need a GUI for anything. I don't know what OS you're planning to run, but if you're happy doing CLI only that should work fine.

I will be running TrueNAS so shouldn't be a problem
