PC doesn't boot

Go to solution Solved by Oslosurfer,

Update: Clearing the CMOS solved the issue! Thanks for your help, guys! :)

Hello! :)

So I tried turning on my PC, but it just stays on for about 2 seconds (monitor stays black), gives me 2 beeps and then turns off. I heard the 2 beeps mean that I have a Parity Circuit Failure... what does that mean?

The DRAM_LED on the motherboard turns on, too, but I'm not sure if that has anything to say. I changed the location of both my RAM sticks, but still couldn't boot.

The only time I can boot is when I completely turn off the PSU, turn it back on and then turn on the PC (typing this using this PC btw).

What do I do and does this have anything to do with my RAM? I appreciate your help, details are listed below:

CPU: Intel Core i5-4670K (stock speed, but have tried some mild overclocks - nothing above 4.5GHz and 1.3v works)

Motherboard: ASUS Z87-PRO (BIOS: American Megatrends, version 1802)

GPU: MSI GTX760

PSU: Corsair RM750

RAM: Corsair Vengeance Low Profile 16GB (2x8GB) (1600MHz)

Storage: Samsung 840 Evo (120GB) and Seagate Desktop (2TB)

Regards,

Oslosurfer

EDIT: I've also run Memtest86+ for over 4 passes (overnight) without any errors... Not sure if that helps out in any way, though.

EDIT 2: Everything in the BIOS is on default (except for RAM frequency: 1600MHz, and the Disc Boot Priorities). Still same problem...

Would you be able to get another PSU and try booting with a different PSU (Borrow one from a friend?). It sounds like it's your PSU or motherboard causing problems.

My Current Build:

Intel i5 3570K @ 4.4GHz 1.11V, Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO, Asrock Z77 Extreme4, Corsair Vengeance 8GB 1600MHz, Samsung 840 EVO 250GB, Asus GTX 760 DCII Overclocked, Corsair CX600M

I could ask, but I don't think that would be possible. I RMAed my previous RM750 PSU btw and got a new one, might still be defect...

Are you able to RMA the motherboard?

I think so, I bought it December 2013... I could ask some guys at ASUS, too...

After a bit of research I have found that Parity Circiut Failure is associated with either memory or motherboard. So try and borrow someones else's RAM and try it out and if it still doesn't work RMA the motherboard.

Awesome! Thanks! I think borrowing some RAM is easier. Also I tried booting up with the 2 RAM sticks separately, but it didn't change anything :/

You can also try pulling your memory out completely and try booting, if the beeps go away you are probably need new memory.  Another easy thing to look at is replacing the battery on the motherboard.

So, I tried taking out both RAM sticks, it didn't boot and I once got one beep, next time I got no beeps, and the rest of the times I attempted to boot I got 2 beeps :/ Bad motherboard? I'll still try it with some other RAM... hopefully this weekend.

Also, can the battery already be dead?

The battery is most likely not dead and you would be getting a error saying the CMOS battery is low on power if it was.

Thank you for trying, I would definitely say try the memory next especially if you can borrow some.  I am sure that the battery is not dead but I try to recommend the easy cheap stuff first.

Honestly don't be shy about not wanting to toy with it too much and just rma if all else fails.

Cool! I'll try to get my hands on some RAM, if that fails it's the motherboard, right? And I can RMA that :)

I would assume so, its the other option for the Parity error.  I would hope that Asus would not have a problem RMA'ing a board your just bought last december,  if they do you should definitely share with the community.

have you tried r esetting the bios or something?

it's either the memory or the motherboard.

Well, in the BIOS I just chose the "Default Settings" Button (all settings in BIOS are now at default), but I still have the same problem... I got a mate bringing me some RAM tomorrow though which I'll test :)

Sorry for the late update, I was at a party last night...

So the RAM I borrowed off my friend and couldn't POST either... I just got the error 53 on my motherboard. :/

I'll try clearing the CMOS or something, if that doesn't work I'll try to RMA the motherboard ;)
