I just got a new SSD for an old system, so I put the drive into the computer and booted to the Windows 7 install disk. I started the installation, but it kept crashing. I assumed that this was because I was overclocked, so I reset the BIOS. After that, I tried booting to the installation disk again, but it wouldn't load. It would say "loading files," and then "starting Windows," but after that, it just sat at the background with the pointer. Eventually it loads and I am able to click on the button that says "Install," then I agree to the terms and conditions, but after that, it just gets stuck at the point where it says "Setup is starting..." I'm really at a loss for what to do. I've already uninstalled some of the RAM and underclocked what's left.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

It takes a while. How long did you wait, I'm assuming that you didn't wait that long, or your DVD is corrupted.

It did eventually load, but it took much longer than it usually does. It was loaded fine the times when it crashed, but for some reason it took an incredibly long time.

optical drive speeds aren't that reliable, I just always assume windows 7 installation is going to take over an hour, because it uses the old methods, windows 8 has a much more fluid installation process though, so the newer operating systems from now on will be easier to install.

When this happens, it's usually hardware fault. Make sure all the parts are actually OK first. My old PC also gave me issues when trying to install an OS. The USB ports were running at 1.1 speeds instead of 2. Ended up with the motherboard being defective. No warranty claim on a 6 year old board, so I chucked it. Shit gets old and then breaks, you gotta move on, especially if its been overclocked (mine was, quite heavily too).
