Using laptop keyboard on desktop

You'd probably have to come up with an Arduino gadget that can read the key matrix and present itself to the PC as a USB keyboard.

The Dell 2GR91 keyboard has a similar feel to that generation of laptop keyboard, but with a longer travel.

I absolutely adore the keyboard of the Latitude E6400 - it's tactile yet quiet and I get the highest WPM with the fewest mistakes on this keyboard. As such, I'd love to use one of these keyboards on my desktop as well as, well, on my laptops. In the past I've connected a Latitude laptop to my desktop via serial port and been able to use the laptop keyboard as a dumb terminal, but I'd love to find a better solution. The keyboard is a standard PS/2 keyboard but the controller is on the laptop motherboard, so the rest of the laptop has to come with the keyboard.

Does any sort of solution exist that takes the laptop keyboard's output and sends it over a PS/2, serial, or USB port?

Thanks for the keyboard recommendation, I'll probably just look for something with a similar feel.

It would be a hell of a lot easier!
