Decent Bassy home theater

I'm looking for a home theater setup in the 300-500 usd range. I was considering a Sony HT-S40R. Thoughts and recommendations are appreciated in advance.

Don't discount a used setup.  AV enthusiasts are often upgrading and deals can abound.  Do you have any current parts of a setup?  Are you wanting a setup anchored with a soundbar?  Out of my current 7.1 setup, the main surrounds and front left/right speakers are used.  If you do buy used, try to find local listings as shipping costs can eat into $ better spent elsewhere.  Always try listen/test the equipment before buying.

But I'm just talking out my ass.
