Okay I'm a bit at my wits end. My original specs are:

  • CPU: 7900X
  • GPU: 3080
  • MB: Asus X670-E TUF
  • Power: Corsair 1000e
  • RAM RAM: 16*2 Trident Z5 Neo RGB DDR5-6000

For about a year, I've had start up issues, and even when it would start, there was a chance the networking wouldn't work. It would either be the networking drivers were missing and I would try to reinstall the not functioning pcie in device manager (I realize I forgot the specific part in device manager), or the networking would be present but not working. Trying to reinstall the drivers were always hit and miss. The power supply would always function, but just to be sure, I had a spare PS, 750 watt EVGA. I would hook up the EVGA to CPU and motherboard, since I didn't want to rewire everything to test, while everything else is on the Corsair PS. It would be the same result. I decided I was going to see about RMA the motherboard, so I got a Gigabyte B650 board to at least hopefully be able to still have a useful computer.

I just put in that new motherboard and lights on some fans would flicker, but would never be able to get it to boot. I redid all the power cables, but still nothing. I then used the EVGA PS for just the motherboard. Lights for fans not going through the MB, GPU all turn on, but still nothing as far as booting. I then redo everything with just the EVGA PS and still nothing. I reseated the CPU in case that was an issue, and still nothing.

So between 2 PS, 2 MB, 1 CPU, and 1 GPU, I'm kind of drawing blanks what it could be. Could the CPU just be the dud? I did have issues at first when I built it originally a year ago, but with BIOS updates, those became better. I did also clear CMOS on the GB MB just to make sure as well. I'd rather avoid if at all possible replacing the CPU. The extra MB was at least cheap enough I don't mind having a spare. But I don't really need a spare CPU.

"while everything else is on the Corsair PS" what else ?

Are you (were you) at stock settings ?

I believe none of your parts was faulty.

Did you check your Ram with a programm like Memtest86 ?

Did you try to reinstall Windows with the first motherboard ?

GPU, Lian li fans and AIO.

Stock on CPU, but I believe RAM was at EXPO. I believe I did Memtest.

Did not reinstall Windows. I've more or less assumed it'd be a hardware issue considering the times it gets stuck booting up and doesn't boot all of the way. I'm gonna try the old configuration tomorrow.

The only part wich seems (slightly) fishy to me is the gpu powered by two psus.

Did you try without the gpu ?

I didn't split power between the 2 psus for the GPU, if that's what you're thinking. I did a decent amount of mining, where I'd have GPUS on their own psu. But that is a good troubleshooting step to try without the GPU in there before testing it all down.

You wrote "GPU, Lian li fans and AIO" meaning you connected the 2nd psu to the gpu while it is already connected to the first psu via the PCIe slot.

Thus the gpu is powered by two psus

Ah gotcha I wasn't thinking of the PCIE slot.

Well after more tinkering, I tried the B650 out of the case with only RAM and CPU installed. No boot whatsoever. The RGB light only comes up for a split second. So I'm pretty sure the B650 is a dud. I put all the parts back into the X670E and it was booting without issue before EXPO. So I knocked it down from 6000 to 5800 and it's booting up without issues.

I still have the networking issues. I'll give it a shot reinstalling Windows. I just need to back everything up and see if that resolves the networking issues.
