Lately my computer has been acting a little strangely. I noticed that every so often the cmd screen opens for literally a nanosecond and closes down. This is not during boot sequence. Its just randomly all day every day. I have run a virus scan but nothing.

Probably nothing to worry about but I did have my crypto wallet hacked not long ago so a being ultra careful!

The only cmd prompt I'm aware of that comes up on a normal gaming PC is Radeon's update software, which happens only at midnight for me.

Some enterprise AV solutions will do this like what I use at work.

Anything else is suspicious, unless you have additional security software running on your machine. The fact that you've had an issue before leads me to suspect its malicious.

Similarly, I get one for Ryzen Master once every two weeks or so. Blank command prompt window with the heading AMDSoftwareUpdate or something along those lines opens on top of whatever im doing and I have to close it.

As mentioned above by @Needfuldoer  Do a scan with MalrwareBytes.  I also recommend doing a full scan with Avast ( free ).  I have encountered it finding something that Windows scan and MalwareBytes won't find.

Open Task Manager , look in Startup  and see what programs are there.  There may be a badly configured entry there trying to launch something.

Look up in Scheduled Tasks (Start > Search > Task Scheduler) and see if there's something configured  to start every x hours, or once a day

You may have some application running in the system tray (near the clock) and one of those applications may have auto update configured or some option - for example an application downloads an update and tries to launch the update to update itself, but sometimes that application is badly written and the "launch update" command is bad and you get a command prompt.

Thanks chaps. Will run a deep scan and Malwarebytes also.

Could be nothing but better safe than sorry!

I have an nvidia card for my sins so not the radeon thing but good suggestion.

I would still be suspicious after scans, at a previous employment, I had a RAT go undetected through 5 different scans with root PE access. I had to manually find it through Resource Monitor that was nested deep into appdata. Had the same RAT show up a few months later too.
