Can't install windows to vhd?

Morpheus
Go to solution Solved by ross06187,

A bit more information around what your trying to do here would be useful.

what are you using for visualization?

windows virtual pc/ vmware box ect.

What are your system parts, do you have visualization turned on in the bios. ect.

or did you just make a VHD and try install windows 8 on it?

This is one way of doing it

but there are lots of other programs you can uses for the visualization.

So I recently tried to make a virtual hard disk and tried to install windows 8 pro on it but ran into some problem. When I boot into the windows installation and attach the VHD, I get this error:

Windows cannot be installed on this disk. The selected disk has an MBR partition table. On EFI systems, Windows can only installed on GPT disks.

And also something about the hardware not supporting dual booting or something

I'm not really sure what this means and tried looking for solutions too but couldn't find anything. I'm new to this stuff so does anyone know how I can fix this? Thanks.

EDIT:

The host os can be any version of windows, but the OS installed into the VHD has to be Windows 7 Ultimate/Enterprise, Windows 8 Pro, or Windows 8 Enterprise

yeah I'm trying to install win 8 pro, so that shouldn't be the problem I think. I googled it and found some people with a similar problem who had to make some changes in their BIOS to fix it but I can't find those settings in my BIOS
