Make sure the SSD is in M2_1. The card is a bifurcation card, so it wires directly from PCIe slot to each M.2 slot. Since the MB slot is x4, you need to make sure the SSD is in the M.2 slot that directly connects to those PCIe lanes (which is probably the first one, hence M2_1).

Specs are as follows:
ASUS Strix X570-E https://rog.asus.com/us/motherboards/rog-strix/rog-strix-x570-e-gaming-model/

SSD I am trying to connect: SAMSUNG 980 PRO

M.2_1 = SAMSUNG 970 Evo

M.2_2 = blank (new ssd has a heatsink on it i got it for christmas trying to work with it) EDIT: looking at BIOs it says AHCI SATA6_2 Samsung SSD 850 EVO 500GB, SATA6G_5: 850 EVO 250GB

Note: i do have 2 sata ssd's connected. I am not sure what slot but i dont think they interfere( kinda newby on this)
The adapter is Gigabyte AORUS Gen4 AIC GC-4XM2G4
for reference, see here:
https://www.amazon.com/Gigabyte-GC-4XM2G4-Adaptor-Advanced-Solution/dp/B082DZ8HLT

I know my motherboard supports this. My 3080 blocks the second pcie slot so i cant use that one. I have the adapater connected to the 3rd PCI-E slot and it runs at 4x which upon my research i know is perfect for what im trying to do. In the BIOs settings raid mode is set to off, i dont want raid mode i just want to use these ssd's as they are but if i want to add more later, I know i have x amount of slots left. So far on the switch i am running at 0/0 because I only have 1 M.2 connected in the adapter currently. Currently I run the adapter with nothing on it as the SSD I recieved for christmas has a heatsink attached already, reference:

please help. I just want to solve this.
