I travel and am in hotels a couple of nights a week. I am looking to do some gaming but have found that wifi in hotels is awful and am hoping I can hardwire using a travel router and either my own ethernet should the room have an ethernet port or the ethernet from the back of the tv. I purchased a gl-mt3000 as from what I can tell people seem to think this is a good basic travel router but was wondering if anyone in this community had an advice they could give me in terms of setup or anything at all in using hotel wifi for gaming.

As of now I have 2002 m2 MacBook Air that I use to either steam link or parsec into my home computer which is hardwired at my house. As I say using wifi to even my hotspot from the phone can be very laggy on local games and impossible on online games (hunt, fortnite, etc). I appreciate any help you guys could give.

Your personal router will really only act like an access point and not a router. The routing is still done by the hotels main router. So if the hotel Wi-Fi is really bad you may not see much of an improvement. Don’t get me wrong there are still some advantages to using your own router at a hotel. The main one being a centralized vpn that all your devices can connect to. It saves you some time and allows you to be secure on sketchy internet. But this probably won’t help with gaming. For gaming you might change the dns on your router as the ones at the hotel are probably not very good. Changing it to googles or cloud flair may give you a slight advantage. Aside from that there may be some other stuff you can find online.
