There is a forum that I used to visit a long time ago but can't anymore due to it being country restricted now based on where I'm located.  So pretty much most of the time where I'm located, I can't visit it.

Does a VPN bypass this or not?  Also it can't be a free vpn like say thundervpn or turbovpn from the google play store right?  Currently using a chromebook right now.

Do all sites have software that eventually detect you are using a vpn and eventually block you from the site because they know you are using a VPN?  Would they be able to detect your real isp and thus block you?  What about those paid vpn's though?  I heard those work when using netflix and streaming sites but do other sites have real strong detection where using a VPN paid still won't work?  Any which vpn would this be?  Any vpn that offer 30 day free trial?  And are there many of them where you can try 1 a month and then cancel just to try a bunch?  I have used the free google play store vpn before and I don't believe those work well right?

I heard those work when using netflix and streaming sites but do other sites have real strong detection where using a VPN paid still won't work?

  1. Depends on how the site chooses to handle connections from various providers, now, and in the future.
  2. See bullet point 1 - if the site owners want, they could block site access for anyone using a certain VPN or ISP.
  3. Untrue - it's a game of cat & mouse. Netflix / streaming video providers usually block VPN IP address ranges.

Anywho, I'd suspect we can't directly help without violating the Forum's Community Standards. (Bypassing security features / restrictions.)

I'm confused here.  I thought people pay for VPN mainly so they could use netflix and hulu while in another country to view their home country?  I recall lot of people recommend vpn for that.  So if so, how would those streaming videos block it... if it seems common?  I never had a netflix or any of those accounts but I always heard people pay for a vpn to bypass those things.

So you are saying some sites are very strict with visitors?  I am talking about even browsing the forum but not signing up at the forum.  For example I recall when in another country, I get a message that I couldn't visit the website due to country restriction.  But if I'm not in that country and in allowed country, then no issue visiting it.  So I was curious does that mean a paid vpn would mean I could visit the website while in a restricted country.  Are certain forums stricter than others or something?  But that means an owner of a site can know 100% if a person is using a vpn or not?  If so, do they pay some software to be able to check this or how does that work?

As was said, it's a cat & mouse game.

Content providers have caught on and are blocking the IP ranges of well known VPN providers.

A lesser known provider might be able to get around for some time. Or they might be able to get another IP range that temporarily gets around it.

But it typically does not work anymore and will never be guaranteed to always work.

Yes, because the copyright industry is stuck in the 1980's like the dumbo's they are. Their restrictive business model might've worked before we had instant access to anything and everything via high-speed internet, but in today's day and age the copyright industry is very much trying to hang on to something that just doesn't make sense anymore. Until this changes, streaming video services must play ball with the copyright holders if they wish to offer content.
