Hello,

I've had my computer for about a year. Since building the machine I've had a glitch with the bios. On initial build there wasn't any problems until I turned on xmp. If I turn it off, the error remains. It doesn't actually stop anything working and I have to use the bios rarely so doesn't cause me too many issues. Recently I've decided my computer is too loud and am trying to figure that out. Use of a working bios would make this a lot simpler. I've attached a video of the weird error.

Hopefully you can help.

Woa! I'v never seen that before 😄 I dont know how to fix that but it sure is interesting.

In general this motherboard has been a massive pain. Lots of coil hum, fan setting has been a nightmare (cant make it quite at all with noctua fans (ignore the stock cpu fan)), and for some reason my psu likes to occasionally get really loud for a few seconds (didnt on previous pc). Would not recommend, but I cant currently afford to replace something that technically "Works".

Did you try without the discrete gpu ?

"If I turn XMP off, the error remains" did you confirm the Ram frequency did indeed reset ?

Fan Control is a great program to control fans in Windows

I have just tried with integrated graphics and the glitch is gone. Whilst not ideal, a pretty easy solution if I need it in the future. (completely forgot I could use the cpu).

That does point to it being a gpu issue then. Not convenient. The most expensive part to replace (potentially).

I have downloaded fancontrol but unfortunately it doesn't detect my case fans or gpu, only my cpu. I assume it's because I'm using a pwm splitter thing? The cpu fan is undeniably loud (expected), but not sure why the psu is loud. Will have to have a tinker.

Still would want to know why my motherboard doesn't like my gpu though

I guess, why do you ? not enough headers on the motherboard ?

How is the cpu temperature ? (did you set your Fans as PWM or DC in the Bios ?)

I see a few reasons. First and foremost if the psu is loud, the psu is hot. Then either you've got a lot going on or you've got really poor airflow.

I have three intakes and an exhaust. There are  enough headers but they are spread across the whole board and preferred them to be neat (and can also run at the same speed as each other).

Cpu is around 40 - 50 at idle (chrome, steam, general stuff) and up to 80 ish in games. I'm not unhappy with temps of that, just a little loud because of the stock Wraith AMD cooler.

I have tried them on both PWM and Voltage but they don't show up in the program. Their fan curves work in the bios, just no reporting back? Their rpm doesn't show in bios either.

I have MAG FORGE 111R case. It has about an inch gap on the bottom for airflow for only the psu. i just took the dust filter off to see if that helps, but it hasn't really. I'm also at idle. I'm not sure my current draw, but i'd be surprised if its over 200W currently.

PSUs dont usually report their temp to the pc right? So i cant see if its hot or even what its fan speed is.

I'd go motherboard, most fan headers are close to the motherboard border, mine are quite tidy. Remember it takes one cable to report one fan speed. One of the 4 PWM fan cables is rpm report.

You should be able to feel the exhausted air and therefore  have an idea how hot the psu gets

Nope, no temp report usually

I will give that a try, no harm in that i suppose.

Ah I see, their speed is currently working (i think, guessing by sound), so I assume it auto picked PWM.

I would guess the exhaust is around 30 degrees? Warm enough that i can feel it, but only just.

I assumed for a while that either my CPU or GPU was occaisionally spiking and that was what was causing the PSU to spin up so much. Although, at 30 degrees i would expect it to basically be off now, so who knows.

Thank you for all your help. Troubleshooting things like this are always irritating.
