Need advise on upgrade

Budget (including currency): 300

Country: USA

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: GTA5 WARZONE, Cyberpunk 2077

Other details, so I have a i7 4770 system from a Lenovo thinkcentre and put in a 500watt PSU and a rx570. I'm wanting a complete revamp of the platform that I'm on. I have a 300$ budget for CPU, motherboard and ram upgrade and will be upgrade the GPU later on. I'm trying to decide between the r5 3600x for budget standards or should I just go full budget and get a 5700x

Do you have a case and motherboard? If not, post a picture of your case, your motherboard with the panel open and its rear IO.

Look at the 5600, not the 5700x.  The 5600 is the best bang/buck CPU in the 5xxx series for AMD.

 

Otherwise look at the 12400f from Intel.

I recommend going $6 over but if you can't we can trim this. Use included cooler:

I've found that the 5600 and 5700x are very similar priced. Would it be worth it to spend extra 10$ for the cores or am I never going to see those results in real world applications

Some games will leverage 8 cores vs 6, but for the most part it's similar...

Mostly I'll just be gaming and I don't think I'll need the 8 cores tbh. But now i wonder if I'm just going to be gaming at 1440p, do I benefit much going 5000 series over ,3000? Should I just get the 3600 and worry about more cores later on in like 4 years when they improve? I just wanted a better windows experience and smoother frames time over my old 4th Gen i7. Would the 3600 give me a boost that I would notice?

Yes, it would.  The 3600 is a solid CPU, it's just getting surpassed.

 

Though not sure how much you'd save by going 3600, unless you find a cheap used one.

I was going to grab one on eBay for 80 and the 5600 is going for 140-150

5600 is $129 on Amazon (or $119 at Microcenter), for comparison.  Not 140-150.

 

How much are used 5600's on Ebay?
