Seriously, install Windows. Linux is terrible choice for games.

what major games are actually available for SteamOS though? I'm not installing it I'm just interested.

Our lord says that he will not prevent Origin from running on Steam OS. 

 

Not that EA has any games for Linux.

valve does not intend steamOS as a desktop OS Although You can use it like that. But there are other Linux distros with more features for desktop use and they will maintain game compatibility with steamOS. As far as origin goes EA currently does not support Linux.

steamOS is still in beta. And the steam machines are still not close to launching. You get a huge load of Indie games and a lot or stuff like FTL. For AAA titles Either current or upcoming- all valve games supported, Then there's Witcher 2, project cars, star citizen, civilization 5, the new unreal tournament, metro series. That's all i can remember...
