I have an old desktop, i was thinking about making into a home server, to run game servers instead of paying for them.  what is the cheapest i can go? on  the GPU, i will only be plugging it in to a monitor to upgrade and restart. and is it even worth it?
MB: crosshair vi 
cpu: ryzen 7 1700x
ram: (4x) ddr4 2400 8gb

so far the only game server i've ever found that needs a decent GPU is civilization V pitboss, because it essentially runs a "DM view" version of the client.

 

other than that.. all you need is a display output (or apparently.. sometimes you dont.)
