Nothing is turning on.

Go to solution Solved by Yua,

You have already swapped the PSU and changed nothing, so I doubt that's the issue.

  • Having some power on the motherboard even when its off is normal and used for features like wake-on-lan.
  • Motherboard models are usually printed on them. If you can't find it, maybe the cooler or other component is blocking the view. You can post a picture of it.

The power supply seems to be working but the fan doesn't turn on (possibly because it's barely powering anything?) and not 100% sure how to test it.

  • A popular way of testing if a PSU is working is to short the pins 16 and 17 together with a metallic conductor like a paper clip. This turns on the PSU to its full working state.

This is a pin out of the big 24-pin connector of a PSU; notice the tab location for orientation.

Leaving that aside, I guess the first step would be resetting CMOS settings.

If that doesn't help, the cause is most probably something to do with your motherboard, CPU, or RAM.

My PC is currently not turning on, no motherboard lights (but I don't think my motherboard has lights)
I was just using it one day and it just turned off mid-use (not the power button being broken, also tried doing the screwdriver thing on the motherboard for power with no luck.) Then wouldn't turn on. No fans, no boot failure, nothing. Any ideas? I've tried replacing the PSU, doesn't seem to be the issue. When I plug my phone into the PC (with pc on, even though it doesn't look on) my phone starts charging for like 1/2 a second (meaning power is going through the motherboard in some way (but it's probably a very small amount as my phone doesn't even realize it's charging after that but it lights up when unplugged so something is changing) but I have no idea what could be happening.
I don't know my motherboard model (prebuild and doesn't specify on the page) and don't know where it would say on the motherboard (I have looked, but I can't find it, apparently )
The power supply seems to be working but the fan doesn't turn on (possibly because it's barely powering anything?) and not 100% sure how to test it. I have already replaced it but my phone doesn't charge off the USB port on the back if the power supply switch is off, so I'm assuming it works correctly.
Any help would be appreciated.

The fan may not turn on because of hybrid mode. You can test the PSU using the paperclip method above. Make sure you have something plugged into it though.

That's normal, there's no power.

It would be helpful to post your system specs.

I found the motherboard model (It was hidden behind GPU)
It's a Gigabyte b460m ds3h ac
My GPU is a RTX 2060 super
My RAM is TEAMGROUP T-Force Vulcan Z 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR4-3600 CL18 Memory
My CPU is Intel Core i7-10700F 2.9 GHz 8-Core Processor
Power Supply (which I now have 2 of) is Apevia Prestige 600 W 80+ Gold Certified ATX Power Supply
I assume to test the PSU, I have to completely unplug it from the pc? (Asking instead of just doing it because replacing the PSU managed to take me 4 hours cuz I suck at this stuff)

If you already replaced the psu, you can rule that out.

Take everything off the motherboard except cpu, cooler + fan, and motherboard power connectors. Try to start it with a screwdriver shorting the power pins. If you still get no joy, 99% it’s your motherboard. 1% fried cpu.

You should get a ram error with the above if it starts.

THE CMOS THING FIXED IT
didn't know that was a thing, tysm. Writing this on my pc after not having it for 2 weeks is great. Also, my motherboard has a thing you can short to reset cmos with screwdriver which is lucky cuz I don't have a paperclip (college)

You should have asked if you didnt know how to reset the CMOS. >.<

Anyway, I'm glad it's working now. Enjoy.

It wasn't that I didn't know how, I didn't know CMOS existed (so didn't know to ask) and after you mentioned it, I just googled it.

Thank you again!
