Hello folks,

I'm hoping I can ask you all for some input. I've gathered all the parts for my build with my GPU arriving today, and I've moved onto getting ready to assemble the parts. I haven't done a build in a while, so I wanted to refresh myself on a few things and ran into a couple of questions.

1) My current CPU/Motherboard combo is a Ryzen 7800x3d with a ASUS ROG Strix B650E-F motherboard. I've seen reports that the bios caused an issue for AMD chips in the past, however my motherboard was manufactured in May, 2023. Should I flash the bios before installing the CPU to be safe, or do you think I'll be okay to install the CPU and let the ASUS software update the bios?

2) Any other pitfalls I may stumble into with this combination? I need to think about the initial setup for it. I'm not an overclocker, but I do want my system to perform well and take advantage of the components I've picked. If anyone has any good recommendations for settings or videos on decent settings for these components, I'd appreciate any guidance.

3) Other than that, does my build look okay? I'm scared to death 🙂

The issue (overvolting) mainly occurred when expo/xmp was enabled, so if you want to be extra careful, I'd check if the shipping bios version includes the fixes and if it doesn't, then flash it before you enable expo/xmp.

How much is that build? The cheapest I can get it is $2000 but the rm1000x is a bit overpriced rn considering the thermaltake GFA3 is 50 bucks cheaper

Don't buy windows. Just get a 3$ key on ebay.

Normally I'd say you should run this list by us BEFORE you buy stuff but honestly it's great.

Would'nt have gone for that board since it's more expensive than others whilst doing literally nothing better than for example a b650 ds3h.

Also wouldn't have chose the h7 flow since it's more expensive and better cases for the price. But if you like the look nothing wrong

As for bios. Yes update it. Especially since you have a x3d chip. Asus sucks this time with am5.

Thank you Tetras! How can I check the bios version on the manufactured board? I didn't see anything on the box, but maybe they have something on the board itself. I debated asking ASUS through a support ticket honestly!

Thank you for your input Jaslion! Believe it or not, I did post my list a few months back, and got some advice on a couple of pieces of it. I would've looked into other motherboards if I had known about the possible issues with the am5 socket, but now I'll just deal with it since I don't really feel like trying to return items. Even with all that, I'm still scared to death. My friends thought I was crazy that I didn't just buy one from MicroCenter or something like that, but this is more fun : )

Thank you again for the input regarding the bios. I'm leaning towards just flashing it with the latest version to be safe and keeping my fingers crossed after that!

Thank you, I should've looked that up myself! I'll have my husband slap my in the back of the head for that 😉

It looks like I have bios version 1224, so now I just have to figure out if that'll cause issues with my CPU. It always feels like one question answered leads to another 🙂

Cool, update the BIOS and then build?  Though I doubt they're still selling the CPU killing boards.

Either way, he has the parts... so build the thing.

Then PBO/CO.

Done.

In Asus bios list, the first version with the updates was 1409, but it didn't stop being mentioned until 1602. Bios version 1224 does not seem to exist:
