Hi there,

I currently have the following RAM

2 x 16gb Corsair Vengeance RGB PRO SL

2 x 16gb Corsair Vengeance RGB PRO

Now these run a max clock speed of 2666MHz but my system supports 3600Mhz DDR4

First question is, is it worth upgrading my ram to get the max clock?

And if so. What should I upgrade to?

Budget is whatever it costs to get the best.

Many thanks in advance,

Josh

Just found out that the none SL RAM that I have actually runs at 3600MHz but the SL RAM doesn't... Is this correct? If so I can just get 2 more non SL sticks and run at 3600MHz, right?

Yes, you can.

Is it worth it?  Depends on what CPU and rest of system you have.

Short answer is no though, since you have 64GB RAM?  I'd run the 2x16 at 3600MHz and be done.  Unless you NEED 64GB?

Your RAM will not run at 3600 MHz by default, even if it supports it. You'll need to enable XMP in the BIOS (basically an auto-overclock)

Running four sticks is harder on the CPU's integrated memory controller than two sticks. So it may or may not be able to run at 3600 MHz with four sticks regardless. Some CPUs, like older Ryzen generations, are known to have issues with it.

I do game development so 64GB helps with high level design.

I have tried to enable XMP but because only 2 of my RAM sticks support 3600MHz, it refuses to boot windows.

why not try overclocking this one? you'd be amazed how high ram sticks can go sometimes

Overclocking what sorry?

Manually setting the memory timings and speed in BIOS, instead of using XMP.

I doubt 3600 will really benefit you since you seem to need more raw RAM than super fast RAM.  Marginal benefit at best.

Yeah, that makes sense. As I said above, XMP is an auto-overclock. It uses a profile stored in the memory sticks to apply the necessary settings automatically. If you have different sticks, those settings are less likely to work for all of them. So the fallback is to manually overclock the RAM (probably not as high as 3600 MHz), or get four identical sticks.
