Hello everyone, i own this 15 year old monitor, an LG Flatron W1943SB with a VGA port and i've had a VGA male to male cable for many many years and recently whenever the cable moves, the color changes to green, purple etc and well i've decided to get a new cable which is not a whole lot and because i've never been in the market for VGA in general and i don't think i will upgrade my monitor soon, in my search results i saw SVGA cables which of course means Super Video Graphics Array (specifically the MediaRange MRCS105 for 4 euros) and my question will be stupid lol but will the SVGA cable work just like any plain VGA cable out there? Thank you!

Yes. "VGA" and "SVGA" technically refer to two different standards, but for the past couple decades they've synonymous in practice.

You only might run into trouble if you've got something ancient with one of the pins on the VGA connector missing. (I ran into that issues, and just ripped the offending pin out of a cheap VGA cable with pliers. It worked fine.)

I sold my soul for ProSupport.

Oh the nightmare that was analog cable quality still haunts me, glad I don't have to deal with it any more.

The quality of the cables varies a lot, I remember some cables being really fuzzy or ghostly picture, so its just going to be a lottery hoping you get a good one.

Does the thing you are connecting it to HAVE to use VGA?  I can't help wondering if a cheap used modern monitor with at least DVI isn't going to be a whole lot better than that aged old thing, the backlight alone is likely to have lost a lot of its brightness over the years.

I just wanted to know if VGA and SVGA are the same thing or not because if i had bought an SVGA cable and it somehow didn't work with my monitor, then i would be pissed lol

I hope i don't run into that trouble though

I mean, MediaRange ain't a knockoff or a fake company so i have high hopes for it.

Yes, unfortunately the monitor ONLY has a VGA connection. I mean, to be truthfully honest, after 15 years of almost continuous use, the logical thing is to buy a good cheap PC monitor but since the monitor still works, then why bother upgrade? Yeah you may say upgrade to get a better quality image etc but honestly i don't really care so that's why i'm still with that monitor 15 years later.

And surprisingly the backlight and everything on this monitor is still superb. Even the power button light on the monitor itself is still working lol.

But spending 4 euros to get a new cable ain't gonna break my bank to not get those random green/purple colors when moving the cable.

So, should i get SVGA over VGA?

Okie dokie!

Sorry what? If i wanted i could've easily upgraded my monitor and get a 200 euros monitor since i got the money but i'm the type of person to use a product till it dies on me/when it's unbearable in using it and hence that's why i still haven't upgraded yet
