No. If the price difference is not too great you might consider the 850W model. But a 750W ATX 3.0 PSU is more than sufficient.

For casual work the performance difference won't matter. The difference is most noticeable in highly multi-threaded apps.

I believe the case comes with 2 fans. Adding another would be a good idea. I'd use the same model as comes with the case.

Budget (including currency): 1500 – 2000 CHF (open to going a bit above)

Country: Switzerland

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: I plan on playing games and doing some light programming (will start studying electrical engineering soon). The most graphicly demanding games will likely be The Witcher 3 and similar AAA titles.

Monitor: Main Monitor: 1440p 144Hz, Second Monitor 1080p 60Hz

I don’t plan on upgrading to 4k and in more graphicly intense single player games (like Witcher 3) I am okay with leaving some fps on the table for higher settings (RT).

Other details: I am switching from a laptop, which I’ve been using for the last 6 years. I already have my peripherals and will be reusing my 2TB M.2 SSD from my laptop.

My budget isn’t to strict. My aim is to build a system that will last me for the foreseeable future but isn’t overkill. I have compiled a first parts-list and would like some feedback on certain components.

I might try to get some better prices on the upcoming black Friday deals.
Most likely I will be ordering my components from Galaxus/Digitec (the same company) as they have most parts available and offer pretty competitive prices.

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3d (394 CHF)

I am somewhat conscious of the power draw and heat generation, which sways me away from an Intel CPU. My dilemma is that the 7800X3D has great gaming performance but is inferior in other tasks. My question would be, if the difference is noticeable in real life tasks. I might use the pc for some light 3d modeling and programming don’t expect workstation like performance.

AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D (AM5, 4.20 GHz, 8 -Core) - kaufen bei digitec

Cooler: Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120 (55 CHF)

Seems to be a common choice, but due to the location the price seems high. I would be paying 55 CHF and there are other coolers available at a slightly higher price point.

Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120 SE (155 mm) - kaufen bei digitec

Motherboard: Gigabyte B650 GAMING X AX (207 CHF)

My understanding is, that I don’t need an higher end motherboard to take full advantage of the AMD CPU. But I couldn’t really find a more affordable Motherboard option. I don’t want a flashy motherboard but it should have WLAN connectivity.

Gigabyte B650 GAMING X AX (AM5, AMD B650, ATX) - kaufen bei digitec

RAM: G.Skill Flare X5 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR5-6000 CL 30 (115 CHF)

G.Skill Flare X5 (2 x 16GB, 6000 MHz, DDR5-RAM, DIMM) - digitec

Storage: Corsair MP400 2TB M.2

As mentioned before, I already own the SSD. I was wondering how big the performance difference between PCIe 3.0 and PCIe 4.0 with newer generation components is?
I am thinking of adding an HDD for longer term storage and was wondering what I have to look for when choosing an HDD (some recommendations would be welcome). 2 to 4 TB of extra storage would be plenty for my current use cases.

GPU: RTX 4070 Ti (used 750 CHF, new 830 CHF)

I am completely unsure when it comes to my GPU choice. I would prefer a GPU from NVIDA due to the software features. But the RTX 4070 Ti seems kind of like a upsell. Especially seeing that it only has 12 GB VRAM but the performance on current titles doesn’t look to bad.

Gigabyte GeForce RTX 4070 Ti WINDFORCE OC (12 GB) - kaufen bei digitec

If there is a RTX 4080 on sale around 1000 CHF I think that would be a better open but the current price tag is a bit high for me.

AMD is an option for me but I am willing to leave a bit of raw power on the table for DLSS but with current prices the RX 7900 XT or even 7900 XTX look like better deals.

Gigabyte Radeon RX 7900 XTX GAMING OC (24 GB) - kaufen bei digitec

PSU: be quiet? Pure Power 12 M 120 CHF
I do not plan on upgrading my PC in the foreseeable future (besides maybe RAM or storage). Is this Power Supply overkill?

be quiet! Pure Power 12 M (750 W) - kaufen bei digitec

Case: NZXT H7 Flow (120 CHF)

I prefer a case with a more minimal design.

NZXT H7 Flow (ATX, mATX, E-ATX, Mini-ATX) - kaufen bei digitec

Fans (50 CHF)

Is it advisable to add some extra fans? And if so are higher quality fans worth the money (for example Noctua)?

Current Total: 1891 CHF

Yeah pretty good rig 🙂

Maybe I'd get a 850 or 1000W PSU just have some more headroom, that's all

The 7900XTX is significantly better than the 4070Ti but lacks DLSS and is inferior in RT, and it's 950CHF...If you can get a 4080 for 1000CHF you should just get it if you're into RT !!

As for the case look to the H5 too, the H7 is big and needs tons of fans to look good

80+ ratings certify electrical efficiency. Not quality.
