VM server

Hello,

I'm planning on upgrading my old server xeon e5 2620 v2, rx550, 32gb ram to either of these:

GPU: AMD Radeon™ RX 7800 XT

CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 7950X

MOBO: ASRock X670E PG Lightning

RAM: Micron MTC20F1045S1RC48BA2R 64gb

or

CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 5950X

GPU: AMD Radeon™ RX 7800 XT

MOBO: ASRock X570 Phantom Gaming 4

RAM: Micron MTA18ASF4G72AZ-3G2R 64gb

 

I'll be running windows hyper v with 5 VMs with 4k monitors or 1440p ultrawides, using mainly for Archicad. Usually for mid size building - small apartment buildings. Usually there will be 3-4 people using the server but sometimes all 5 VMs could be used at the same time. Which one should I choose? Could I run into any issues with AM5 platform considering it's a fairly new platform? Also is there any reason why I should maybe choose a low end threadripper like 5955wx if I don't need the PCIe lanes? Ryzen 9 7950x pc all put together costs around 2300eur, ryzen 9 5950x - 2000eur and threadripper 5955wx - around 3100eur. Maybe you have any other options I could do instead but I don't want to use used parts.

Also how's the ECC ram support on ddr5? Could that cause any issues, ASRock page says that the mobo does support ECC memory.

PS. The GPU might be a bit overkill for my use case.

I am not sure if AMD has any sort of vGPU capabilities but I also find your total ram amount rather low for 5 architectural work VMs.

 

I am also not sure how your users access to these VMs, are these RDP only headless devices or are you looking into creating a 69 gamers 1 pc type of whack solution?

use only unbuffered ecc ram for ryzen desktop, Rdimm (registered) only for Epyc.

or wait, threadripper 7000 is coming soon.
