NAS additional storage

Hello,

 

I recently purchased a Dell Poweredge R740XD which I currently have running unraid with a few dockers and VM's. Im looking to expand storage so purchased a Dell PowerVault MD3460 60 Bay, I can't figure out how to connect the two together, I know the R740 has a Perc h740p raid card, do i just simply purchase a HBA card install it in the R740 and then connect that to the powervault?

The PERC daughterboards won't have any external connectors. You'll need a PCIe SAS card.

 

What kind of monster storage array are you building? Holy moly.

thanks for the reply, would something like this work? And just upgrading my plex & nextcloud storage lol as I've almost used up the 20 drives on the r740. I was thinking of daisy chaining 2 of the MD3460's so 140 drives in total should see me through the rest of my life  I've just started with the homelab stuff and its slowly starting to take over my life and my bank account

That card should work.

 

And here I thought I was going overkill with my R730XD and twelve 12 TB drives...

What size drives are you using? Hope your power is cheap

In the R740 I have 20x 2.5" 1.8tb and the powervault currently 20x Seagate exos 18tb as 20 is the minimum required to run it & the price of sas drives is ridiculous
