The PC you have now doesn't feel as bad honestly, are you experiencing low fps or do you like to run higher graphics settings?

Also the RAM you have, is it rated at that speed or should it go faster?

One of the easiest ways to determine which part to upgrade is playing one of demanding games, and having Task Manager open in the background, and usually the slowest component is at or close to 100%, there are some exceptions like games being heavily CPU intensive and whatnot though..

Also note that if GPU upgrade was on the line, you need to check if your PSU can handle it.

I turned on XMP in bios awhile back and i forgot to mention i have 2x 4gb 2133mhz ram and 1x 8gb 2666mhz, it says in task manager that the ram speed is 2666mhz so i guess that's good?

Im not experiencing very low fps, but for example some games like Apex Legends get's laggy ish, drops frames, i used to have 144+ fps now i get lower and it feels more inconsistent if that makes sense, on Modern Warfare 2019 i used to have a good 150fps kinda consistently and now i just dont get that fps even with lower settings

I checked one of those Bottleneck calculating sites but i dont kinda trust them, if it is bottlenecking however i want to change that.

what gets loaded more during gaming, CPU or GPU? you can set up the TaskManager in background, and then alt+tab from game to check the graphs, or screenshot them

Task manager is not a reliable way to tell how much a GPU is being used.

@ludvigpuo19Use MSI Afterburner/geforce experience to overlay that stuff (Alt+r iirc) in game. That gives a you a better reading

It seems the gpu is under the most load (as it looks), but the cpu sometimes is the exact same

it's tricky, it seems that you could use stronger GPU because of the utilization, but also a stronger GPU is quite expensive unless you're going off of used market

Yeah i have been researching as much as i can, benchmarking, checking temps, checking what would be recommended, but everywhere it just says i need a new CPU which i think is horsecrap because it's a pretty decent CPU

9400F is like only slightly slower than 5600x, so you'd have to get like a really fast expensive CPU to consider it an upgrade,

and with GPU, well the faster you go, the more $ and it also might be slightly held back by the CPU but not as much, it would probably still be a higher improvement than a new CPU,

if you're interested how relatively faster a GPU is, here:

https://www.techpowerup.com/gpu-specs/geforce-gtx-1660.c3365

you would want at least like a 25% or more increase in performance otherwise you're basically paying buckets for almost same performance with like 10-20 more fps

Your budget is pretty low

Best you could do is upgrading CPU and board, keeping the rest, but even with the cheapest parts you're over budget...

No

Single core is like 25% better, and multicore is better cause the 9400F don't have hyperthreading...

But sure  it's not that great of an update, the budget is too low

actually, maybe it does ur right, but I'd get at least 5600 instead of 5500 at that point

still though, if the CPU isn't topped wouldn't GPU be better if they can afford a faster one?

You should still up the budget a bit to get a 5600, and  you'll be good

You can't get a decent upgrade to a 1660 with your budget

Yes but it doesn't perform much better than a 1660 (30%), at that price range a 6600 is better (+another 20%)

*and* your slow CPU will bottleneck it (if it's not already the case), imo you should  upgrade your platform first
