The Ryzen 7700X should not bottleneck an RTX 4070 or RX 7800XT on 1080p, at least not by a significant margin.

On 1440p it should be fine for all available GPUs. Not sure if I'm reading your question correctly.

If you mean - which games would an RTX 3060 have sub-optimal performance on 1080p high details - those might be the latest Unreal Engine 5 games (like Lords of the Fallen), Starfield, the upcoming Alan Wake 2, Cities Skylines 2, and such.

As for the upgrade path from a 3060 with the 7700X, we need more details - which monitor (resolution) are you using and what is your power supply (PSU)?

I wouldn't worry about running into a CPU limit with an RTX 3060 or even an RTX 4070 when combined with an R7 7700x.

Whether you should upgrade or not depends on: does your current system not do what you want it to do? Is a possible upgrade in game details or resolution worth the amount of money you'd need to spend to you?

this entirely depends on if you can afford it or not...

apparently you're unhappy with your current performance,  because otherwise you wouldn't ask this question,  right?

we cant really make that decision for you,  there's always a bottleneck and unless you buy the highest end parts there will always be an upgrade path.

tldr: it all depends on how much *you* want it.

personally i don't see why you should upgrade a perfectly reasonable balanced system, but im not the the one asking this question... so i guess upgrade until money runs out or something?

(as said, personally i wouldn't)

my monitor is a 27in 240hz 1080p, and a 850psu but that isnt really a issue im willing to upgrade it to

Why would you downgrade?  Why is that something you'd even mention?

Stop worrying about bottlenecking.  Ignore the hype train and just enjoy your stuff.

Or educate yourself on what bottlenecking truly is and make informed decisions rather than fear based ones.

Your PC is fine until it isn't.  Then look at what to upgrade.

Is there something about your machine it's not providing a good experience?

yeah, i thought so.... well in my opinion any upgrades right now just don't make sense, better save up for when this system starts to get really outdated. (1-2 years at least)

I don't disagree with you in general but starfield is not unreal engine 5.

Well, to get more frames on 1080p you can:

- upgrade the GPU to an RX 7800XT or 6800XT or an RTX 4070, 3080.

- upgrade the CPU to a 7800X3D or wait a generation or two and get an 8800X3D or such.

Who said anything about Starfield being UE5? I put Lords of the Fallen as an example, not Starfield.
