First picture shows multiple MOLEX connectors (which are used for powering ancient components and auxiliary devices). Second picture shows a floppy disk power connector, which has been obsolete for the last 25 years as of today.

I always hated those pass through MOLEX connectors

What kind of power supply is that? It seems ancient and could be unsafe to use, at least with regards to your components. The only modern day use for Molex would be to power fans if there aren't enough fan headers. And you can usually just power two fans from one header with a splitter, which is a better and neater choice.

Also, it looks to me as if the black plug plugged into the series of white Molex connectors is also a Molex, not SATA. I may be wrong though, hard to tell from the picture.

Can you fans be powered using anything else than the white molex connector? Something like a 3 pins (DC) or a 4 pins (pwm) connector that would connect directly to a MB header?

Some fans offer multiple option for power (to make sure they're compatible with older systems). Molex is the worse of all options. You won't need to use the molex connector if you can use DC or PWM instead.

If your fans only have molex for power, this means they are pretty ancient, and thus maybe noisy as well. You might consider replacing them with newer ones (that use DC or PWM) if you have the spare cash.
