Hey guys,

I have 16GB of DDR4 3600 CL18 in my system. My CPU is a 5900x, GPU a 1070. I have found, that I am fairly low on memory, depending on the Games I play / workloads I run. I would like to upgrade to 32GB. Would you recommend me to get another 2 sticks of 8GB 3600 CL18 and run 4 sticks or would I be noticeably better off, buying 2 Sticks of 16GB RAM with tighter timings?
I know that Zen really likes fast memory with tight timings, I just dont know, if its worth it to scrap my RAM and get faster one.

Thanks for your help

4x8 works not just in dual channel but also in dual rank. Make sure you have the latest Bios first.

Considering your board, and the fact that your GPU is a 1070, I think you should just buy two more sticks and call it a day. It'll be way cheaper, and running 4 sticks will already give you the advantages of dual-rank memory.

If you want to invest a lot of money into your system, that's better spent on a new GPU.

Your best option is infact the 2x16 3600CL16 but the benefit is largely marginal and unnoticeable basically.

You're big issue is if you can run 3600 x4, which would be your cheaper option.  May want to try that, and return if it doesn't work.  it SHOULD work, but not guaranteed on AM4 always.

I run 4x4 at 3200, so I can't comment on 3600.

Îf you can get the same exact kit, then you can get another pair, but you might have to tweak it slightly to get it to work. DOCP wont work and you'll have to set the timings manually. If you want easy mode, get a 3600mhz or 3200mhz kit.

Youll have to define best here cause 3600c16 is far from the best xmp (thatd be a bdie bin like 3800/4000c14) and well off the mark for best performance (thatd be tuned bdies)

Adding another 2 sticks is problably what you wanna do here and it should work though im abit skeptical of that boards 4 stick capabilities

What id personally do here would be to sell off those existing sticks and buy a couple 2666-3200 bin (bin doesnt matter) hynix 16gb sticks, particularly hma82gu6djr8n as they are dual rank hynix djr, lazy overclock to ~3800 ish by following someones profile and be done with it, and i did find a profile here so just plug and play though id run c18/19 to reduce voltage requirement for no performance loss
