I have a Plex server that I use on my main desktop. It worked perfectly fine when I was at home but I am having some issues now. I recently moved to college and for security reasons they will not let me port forward. So I had used vpns in the past to run Minecraft servers so I decided to try it on proton vpn. I have the full access version of proton vpn and I used the port forwarding option on proton and many ports will work to run Plex off of but not the displayed one through proton. I can get access outside of my network for a couple of minutes to sometimes an hour but it always stops working. On the server it still says fully accessible outside of network even when it no longer is. If anyone needs more info or could help that would be great.

Forget the VPN, can your clients connect to Plex just through its built-in functionality? (Your server and client machines are logged into the same Plex account, right?)

I sold my soul for ProSupport.

It can if Plex has the relay on but that limits it to 480p so I turned it off. At home all the clients could connect and they are on the same Plex account. Without the vpn it won’t work at the college cause all the ports are closed.
