yes you'd get similar gaming performance anyways

Sorry, wasn't clear at all. Planning to get mobo and RAM new, and going to get 7600x used if I can, that's why I added it as a custom part on pcpartpicker. My budget for the mobo and ram is £230, the CPU £200 (from selling my switch). Your parts list included a cooler too, but I'm probably just going to use my current cooler if I don't sell it with my motherboard and CPU . Also wanted to get 16GB RAM now and get 16GB again later on when I sell my switch games aswell.

try this combo then

Memory: G.Skill Ripjaws S5 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR5-5600 CL28 Memory  (£108.05 @ Amazon UK)
Total: £244.71

Im going to upgrade my CPU soon as my current i5-10400 can’t keep up with BeamNG traffic, so I was wondering how much better a 7600X would be. I think AM5 is the best decision as it’s going to be around a lot longer, but will it be worth it? Will a 7700X be a more substantial upgrade that’ll be worth the extra cash?

Edit: currently using 16GB (2x 8) ddr4 2666 and will get ddr5 (4x 8) 32GB 4800 cl40.

Not sure how reliable online benchmark websites are and how it compares to in game performance, so I thought I’d ask here aswell. Thanks!

I wouldn't get either if it's just for gaming. The 7600 non x would be my choice for it's basically identical performance to a 7600x but without the high thermals or high power consumption

The 7600 would be a good choice though

What's your budget for this upgrade?

Try this example build

Though you could definitely get the budget lower

@1080p the 7600x is around 20% faster and @1440p it’s around 15% faster for average fps while gaming.

The biggest thing you should notice is the 1% lows being higher and that will make your gaming experience feel a lot smoother.

For gaming the 7600x is a great cpu, I use one with no complaints.

No cpu mobo or ram atm

Thanks! Don’t really have a specific budget but ideally under £230. I don’t have a preference over motherboard wether it be mATX or ATX, as long as it has at least 2 or 3 M.2 M-key slots. My current parts list is here. If you have any recommendations that’d be great.

Ideally I’d get the CPU new if the price is okay but I’m considering it used to save £40 or so. Currently selling my old switch to upgrade, so under £200 would be ideal.

so 230 for the whole upgrade? Because a 7600 is about 210 pounds

or do you already have these parts?
I mean do you already have the ram, the mobo and the 7600x and your remaining budget for the upgrade is 230 pounds?

Sorry, wasn't clear at all. Planning to get mobo and RAM new, and going to get 7600x used if I can, that's why I added it as a custom part on pcpartpicker. Also wanted to get 16GB RAM now and get 16GB again later on when I sell my switch games aswell.

With the mobo, would it be worth it getting an ATX board with more features but slightly higher pricing, or going for a cheaper mATX board with less features?

And lastly, would it be worth getting the 7600 non X vs X like you mentioned earlier? And if I did, could I just use PBO and get very similar performance?

Edit: Put the mATX motherboards in custom parts section of my list https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/drrRvj

Well, thanks for your help! I’ll probably use that RAM and have a look at the mobo too.
