Hello,

I would like some recommendations about changing my CPU, so I'll leave here my specs and my ideas.

I'm from Portugal so please give me prices from Europe.

CPU: Athlon II x2 250 OC @ 3.5Ghz

RAM: 4GB DDR3 1.5V 1333 - Kingston

Board: Asus M4a78LT-M LE

GPU: XFX DD 6870 1GB GDDR5

PSU: Corsair CX-500 V2 (80 Plus)

As a monitor I use a 19" Samsung TV that is 1360x768 native but when I'm gaming I change it to 1080p.

So I was thinking about replacing my board and CPU with these:

Boards:

ASUS M5A97 R2.0  84,45€

or

ASUS M5A97 LE R2.0  77,55€

CPU's:

AMD FX-6300 116,00€

or

AMD FX-6100 107,25€

My other thought was keeping the motherboard and changing the cpu to this:

ATHLON II X4 640 AM3 73,25€

Please give me good advice, will the athlon x4 give me a good boost in performance or should I just go to the FX 6 core, I need to change my cpu because games are beginning to push my cpu to the limit.

thanks hope to get good replys :)

Go with the LE board and the FX6300. I just had the same CPU as you do not to long ago and I upgraded to a i5 3570k and it made the world of difference.

Im sorry the prices of the asus boards are switched the LE is cheaper xD

do you know the difference between the two boards , i'm confused because their verry similar

The M5A97 R2.0 has front usb 3.0 header while the LE version doesn't. I would go with the M5A97 R2.0 with the FX6300.

Tha's ok my case does not have front USB 3, will the FX 6 core scale well with my 6870 ?

Yea there shouldn't be any significant bottleneck in this.

Yeah, the 6300 is really good if you're trying to keep prices on the cheaper side, I wouldn't really bother with an Athlon 640 and the 6100 doesn't really seem worth it to me so my advise would be this: go with the AMD FX 6300.

As to the motherboards either of them look alright to me, I would say go with the none LE if you're overclocking, there's not a huge price difference.
