I was looking to buy a laptop(I know there is a place to post laptop related stuff, but I haven't been getting responses) and I saw one that had Optane Memory, looked it up and found an explanation in the intel website and it seemed that optane memory was pretty cool. But does it make much difference in real world performance?

Apart from that, it would be helpful if someone could help me find a laptop for under 600 dolars, I will mainly use it for lots of math related computations and other math related stuff(I'm currently doing a master in combinatorial mathematics in university) as well as some python scripts.

Here are the two options I'm considering:

Thank you!

Optane drives are insanely fast, optane memory... doesn't really do anything. It's not high enough capacity to boot or run stuff off of, and it's useless as a cache when you can just install a cheap M.2 SSD and run everything off that. It's sorta just a gimmick, or a helper for boot times if you run an HDD (but again, M.2 and SATA SSDs are cheap af currently, so no reason to run an HDD as a boot drive).

Get the amd, WAY faster cpu (basically double the multi core), faster gpu AND double the battery life (11th gen was not efficient)

Optane is stupid fast.Like it has been used as massive capacity slower ram fast. However as a small cache drive its completly useless as it cant contain enough data and well simply put even a cheap sata ssd is so far beyond fast enough for most people that there was no need for it.

Its why intel cancelled optane in the consumer space. Basically nobody needed it and the price was high.
