Ive shared a Folder on my local network so I can access it from my phone, But how can I make the read speed faster? i have 350 down and 25 up, the computer is wired, the phone obviously isn't, and when trying to read a file its doing about 12mb/s-16mb/s read speed. it is a WD120EFAX HDD And not an SSD, but I figured it would at least be a little faster? Most of the files I'm trying to open are 400-2000MB.

Just to clarify, do you mean those speeds are 12 megabytes per second (MB/sec), or 12 megabits per second (Mb/sec)? Capitalization actually makes a big difference in communicating networking terms, because one bit = eight bytes.

If you're connecting over your local network, your Internet connection speed isn't a factor. If you're connecting from outside your house over a VPN, downloads to your phone will be limited to your 25 Mb/sec upload speed.

Honestly this sounds more like a network issue than a drive issue, because even an old spinning drive should be able to copy much faster than that. What are the model numbers of your phone and your router? Are all your wired network connections Gigabit, not just 10/100 Fast Ethernet? (100 megabits/sec is about 12 megabytes/sec.) Which WiFi standard do they top out at? 12 MB/sec is about as fast as 100 meg Fast Ethernet can go, and older or low end home networking gear stuck with that standard for far too long to save a few pennies per unit.

What I suspect is that some link in your network is limited to around 100 megabit/sec. That will cap the transfer speeds to around the 12-16 MB/sec you're seeing.

I sold my soul for ProSupport.
