Hey guys,

So I'm planning on creating a youtube channel with gameplays and was wondering whether Mrillis Action or Shadowplay would be better for recording.

I'd also like to stream and add overlays to the video (which could be done in a video editor).

I'm looking for high quality, good options, and small file size.

Thanks.

*P.S. Do you guys like the gamertag MrMiniBeast? I've had it for a couple years and am not sure if I want to change it before I start youtube.

DXTory or MSI Afterburner are good, support a variety of codecs.

Shadowplay is good but it compresses to H.264 on the fly and uses VBR (variable bit rate) so if you were to edit and render/encode/compress the footage again you'll lose quality.

Here is a test series I made to demonstrate what raw shadowplay footage looks like when uploaded to youtube at each bitrate, it isn't very good because YouTube recompresses it using a different codec. However using it to stream to Twitch may yield vastly different results depending on their codecs.

I found much better results by using the Lagarith software codec to capture, and then using video editing software to encode H.264/AVC codec, which is what YouTube natively uses.

There is a lot to be learned on this subject, I recommend you read this for starters, it's the official manifest for encoding for YouTube by Google. :)
