Everyone I've found online says HL:S is a bad port. Unfortunately everyone I've encountered talking about it either is using windows using Directx, or doesn't mention their OS, which likely means they're running the game in Windows using Directx. But the game also has a native Linux port using opengl, and I haven't found a single comparison of that version. Are all the graphical bugs still there? Are some of the physics and ai bugs fixed by using the linux version. Can soemone please test out the linux version of Half-Life Source?

If you're looking to play the first Half Life then have a look at Black Mesa. It's not just a port, but also adds content in places the original game was very lacking.

If someone did not use reason to reach their conclusion in the first place, you cannot use reason to convince them otherwise.

Arguably one of the better "reimagined" games out there, you can tell it was made by fans.

Plus I don't think HL:S is really an upgrade over regular Half Life anymore, if you want to play the original you might as well just go with that. Not sure how the Linux support is there, but that game should run on basically anything in terms of hardware requirements (while also not looking that much worse compared to HL:S).

Okay, so here's the thing: Half-Life Source's bugs are not limited to graphical bugs, there's WAY more than that. I would never EVER recommend playing HLS over HL. And besides, knowing the engine, I highly doubt the graphical issues are unique to DirectX. There are three ways I would recommend playing Half-Life. The most original, pure experience I could recommend would be running the original game in Xash3D, as it's just a better engine (VSync my beloved). If you want a slightly updated experience I would recommend Half-Life MMOD, which is available on Steam. It's got slightly better graphics and gameplay while still maintaining amazing fidelity. If you don't mind overhauling your entire experience, I'd play Black Mesa. It's twice the price, but believe me it's worth it. Black Mesa is hands-down the best game I have ever played. It's important to realize that it sets a very different tone from the original, so if you try to jump from Black Mesa to Half-Life 2, you'll probably be pretty confused.
