Budget (including currency): flexible but I'd like to come under 1000CAD not including the GPU

Country: Canada

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: mostly single-player. I'll be playing Phantom Liberty  maybe Deadspace, The Last of Us, Hellblade 2

Other details

I have a 3060ti which I'm going to keep until next year but I'm undecided on what to upgrade to. since my current system is bottlenecked at the CPU  (an old i7 4790) I want to update all of this though i could wait if need be.

I would buy an i5 13500 instead as you can overclock the 13600k with that motherboard or get a z series motherboard. Also the ssd you have on the list is a bad value tbh. You can get a 2tb pcie 4.0 ssd for a little over 100 bucks.

Good point about the CPU. I wasn't really planning to overclock. I picked the 13600k because the base speed was 1.0ghz faster for not a huge price increase.

Base speed doesn't matter. That has basically no bearing as you won't be at base clock during heavy load like gaming. If anything it just saves energy when not doing anything intensive on your computer. In gaming the performance difference is minimal and not worth the extra cost imo. Do note that I would recommend the i5 13500 but I wouldn't recommend the i5 13400 as that has 12th gen cores.

Its still an Alder Lake chip like 13400, just get 12600K instead which would be a massive 100 CAD saving if you are suggesting that.

Also, don't cheap out on LGA1700 board, Intel severely underspec'd the VRM requirements and most board would current throttle on a lot of 100+W chip. Get a 10-12 phase board or atleast a well cooled 8/6+6 phase. Read reviews.

It's not alder lake. It has different cashe setup than alder lake but yes it isn't the same as the i5 13600k either but to make it sound like the i5 13500 is alder lake is just wrong. The i5 13400 does have alder lake versions though like I said. Also nite that the i5 13500 has the same core configuration as the i5 13600k while the i5 13400 has the same core configuration as the i5 12600k. You get 8 e cores with the i5 13500 vs 4 with the i5 13400 or i5 12600k

Hey thanks for the input.

so the price doesn't look that different between the ddr 5 and 4 builds so why go for the ddr4?
